Sessions

about grief

In sessions about grief, you can take up all types of loss and all types of grieving. The sessions can focus on the loss of a loved person to death or divorce, but they can also focus on the loss of something valuable in life due to illness or even when life develops in a different direction than wished for and dreams are lost. In short, we experience grief every time there is a loss or an absence of something that is meaningful to us. The sessions honor all types of loss.

Grief honors the loss. The grieving person shows with the grief what the loss meant to him or her.

- Mai-Britt Guldin in Sorgterapi, 2018
The purpose of sessions about grief is to offer support in order for you to function with your loss, and live your life the way you want it after your loss. It is a myth that grief will pass when we do “grief work”. It is also a myth that there is a right way to grieve. You are grieving because you loved or found meaning in life. Therefore, we cannot make your grief go away. Instead we will work together to integrate your grief in your life in order for you to find a way to live your life with your grief.
Grief is always about what matters to us in our lives. Grief invites big feelings into the room and asks us to look at them. The work is not about removing grief but finding a way to be in contact with the grief. By doing this, you can find a way to live with loss and grief.

When you are grieving, you can feel stretched between the past and the future, between the longing and the need to step into a different future.

- Mai-Britt Guldin in Kort og Godt om Sorg, 2019

It is a myth that we can make grief fade.
Rather, we develop and learn to live with our grief.

- Mai-Britt Guldin in Tab og Sorg, 2019
